Minority and women owned firms face unique challenges. In
order to build and sustain a successful business, management must focus on
competitive strategies to overcome these challenges.
To address this need, in 2006 the NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT)
partnered with the Minority Executive Education Institute (MEEI) to create an
executive level schooling program for firms in the highway and commercial
construction industry, construction related consultants, and suppliers. The MEEI is a
program of the North Carolina Institute of Minority Economic Development
(NCIMED) that creates educational programs for minority businesses to further
promote innovation, encourage professional development, and to advance business
growth and capacity.
The DBE Executive Management Program (EMP) provides an intensive series of
courses designed to provide cutting-edge training to business owners and managers in
areas critical to business success. The EMP aims to build business capacity through the
enhancement of strategic management techniques and business leadership skills.
Participants in the program receive practical instruction from business educators from
one of the nation’s top-rated business school, as well as from professionals engaged in
business improvement.
The exclusive setting of the EMP allows business leaders to “get away” from their
company to objectively assess their strategic objectives, business plan, operational
efficiency, and opportunities for growth.
Participants also benefit from the opportunity to collaborate and network with other
business owners to share creative ideas, best practices, and strategies for future
business success.
